So Ladytron is currently touring with Datarock right now, and they showed up to my city. For me, it was a dream come true, because I'm a huge Datarock fan. I know their band history pretty well (I think) and I enjoy Fredrik Saroea's old stuff from 2001, (mainly because of Le Theme De Transformers). Because Datarock is from Norway, they don't tour North America often, and I've been waiting to see them live for years.
Of course, most of the people went to see Ladytron, as they are more well known than Datarock (except in my world, where I only learned about Ladytron because of this tour). To prepare for the show I bought Witching Hour so I could enjoy them.
Now onto the review:
Datarock started the show, and they were awesome. They were very energetic, hillarious and they interacted with the crowd. Even though most people didn't know who they were, they're fortunate enough to enjoy the energy that Datarock provided. It's a shame Datarock's album, Datarock Datarock, is nothing like seeing them live.
Ladytron was a disappointment. When I go to a live show, I expect to hear something different, not the same crap they produce in studio. They might as well have lip synced. Although they played very loudly, I would say they were more quiet when compared to Datarock. They didn't interact with the crowd much, and weren't as energetic... but then Ladytron is sort of gothic and their music isn't that energetic. I won't deny that more people there enjoyed Ladytron more than Datarock. I also won't deny that I enjoyed their light show.
After all of this, I learned a valuable lesson. Saying "What's a Ladytron?" when Ladytron comes out on stage is a good way to get someone to punch you in the face. Of course, the punch doesn't hurt if you're a man. Or if you been drinking too much Tequila.
